Samoa will soon have an international standard forensic laboratory as well as becoming the central hub for fingerprints in the Pacific, as a result of an Australian programme to develop a regional automated fingerprint identification system.
The 400,000 US dollar project is funded by the Australian government.
The Australian High Commission in Apia says the new centre will cement Samoa's standing as a centre for law enforcement excellence in the Pacific.
The laboratory, which is being set up by the Australian Federal Police, will ensure that those who commit crimes will be much more easily identified in the Pacific.
