More than two tonnes of rubbish was collected during this year's International Coastal Cleanup at the weekend on several beaches and coastal locations on Saipan in the Northern Marianas.

The Coastal Resources Management's 2011 Coastal Cleanup coordinator, Guy Macaranas, says the quantity from this year's collection was down slightly on last year.

He says the most common items collected were cigarette butts.

Other rubbish included plastic and glass bottles, beverage cans, plastic spoons and forks, and styrofoam plates.
