The new director general of the Melanesian Spearhead Group Secretariat, Peter Forau, has arrived in Port Vila to take up his new appointment.
Mr Forau, a Solomon Islander, was appointed by the leaders of the MSG at their summit in Fiji earlier this month.
He has extensive regional experience, having worked with the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands and as deputy secretary general of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat for five years.
Before that he also served as permanent secretary for three ministries in Solomon Islands, including the ministry of foreign affairs and external trade.
Mr Forau replaces Rima Ravusiro of Papua New Guinea whose contract expired in July.
