Palau's President, Johnson Toribiong, has signed eight of the core international human rights treaties, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women or CEDAW.

The signing took place during this week's United Nations general assembly in New York.

Among the other treaties to which the republic is now a signatory are the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.
