A court in Hawai'i has denied bail for Tone Pulou who is wanted in American Samoa for raping a thirteen year old girl.

Mr Pulou has appeared in a Honolulu circuit court, wanting bail to be set at 50 thousand dollars.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports circuit judge Steven Alm gave state authorities until the third of November to return Mr Pulou to American Samoa where he faces charges of rape, first-degree sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Mr Pulou fled to Australia in August last year when territorial authorities issued a warrant of arrest.

He then travelled to Hawai'i and was arrested in Honolulu.
