Vanuatu government dips into Development Fund to pay MPs

8:19 am on 19 October 2011

The Vanuatu government has used 75,000 US dollars from the Community Development Fund to pay the parliamentary allowances of 14 government members of parliament.

The office of the Prime Minister says it was decided to access the Fund amid financial difficulty at parliament to pay entitlements.

The Fund has been approved by parliament mainly to be used to assist community development projects and not to the pay politicians.
