Tahiti strike settlement normalises port activity

Talks at French Polynesia's presidency have led to the signing of a deal which has settled three strikes affecting mainly Tahiti's main port.

No details of the accord have been made public by the president, Oscar Temaru, who had invited union leaders to hear their grievances.

The strike had hampered the access to the port, prompting concern that Papeete was running short of supplies, such as flour.

The deal also ended a protest by fishermen whose partial port blockade last week had disrupted ferry services between Tahiti and Moorea.
