Fiji's national broadcaster is on the verge of starting its own free to air TV channel.

The CEO of Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says the service will be launched next month but would not reveal the exact date.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum says FBC TV differentiates itself from other Fiji TV channels by what he calls its truly international programmes.

"The usual suspects are the Hollywood type of programmes and some stuff from India as well, for the Hindi speaking audience. We will have some local programmes that we are developing which we will have on air at the start. Also we have world news, educational programmes from Korea, China, Iran and hopefully from other parts of the world as we get closer to the opening date."

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum says the most popular Hollywood-style programmes include The Good Wife, NCIS and How I Met Your Mother.
