The father of the German tourist killed in Nuku Hiva has arrived in French Polynesia to try to reconstruct what happened to his son, Stefan Ramin.

DNA tests in France have confirmed that the human remains found in a fire in Nuku Hiva are from the missing yachtie suspected to have been killed by a local guide, Henri Haiti, who is still at large.

Erwin Ramin has told the magazine, Der Spiegel, that he suspects that his son was involved in an accident and that that the situation then got out of hand.

He says he would like to set up a memorial on Nuku Hiva so that family can visit the place where his son died.

Mr Ramin has also urged the local community not to abandon its plans for a cultural festival because of the tragedy.
