Sport: Fiji confident ahead of Oceania Sevens

Acting Fiji sevens coach Joe Savou believes his team is on the right track ahead of the Oceania Sevens which begin in Apia on Saturday.

A shadow Fijian side was bundled out in the semi finals of last weekend's Marist Sevens, while Fiji finished runners-up to Samoa at August's Pacific Games.

With just four weeks before the first leg of the new World Series Savou has been busy bedding in a number of new players and says he's believes everything is slowly coming together.

"We took one squad for the Pacific Games and there's another one here at the FORU so I'm quite happy with the development in sevens and with the performance last week. We're hoping for the better result this week against the top teams like Samoa, Australia, PNG and Cook Islands. I'm confident that the boys will do well this weekend in the FORU."

A permanent coach for the Fiji team should be known in the next week or so and Joe Savou says he's hoping to stay in the job for the World Series.
