Sport: Solomon's Koloale face champs as O-League returns

11:31 am on 29 October 2011

Koloale face a daunting first-round encounter against the defending champions as the new Oceania Champions League season kicks off this afternoon.

The Solomon Islands champions host Auckland City in one of three games on matchday one.

Vinnie Wylie reports.

"This afternoon's clash will be a repeat of the 2009 final, when Auckland City romped home 9-4 on aggregate. The visitors have high hopes for new midfield signing Andreu Guerao, who adds to the strong Spanish contingent already at the club. Koloale meanwhile will rely on their local-based trio of Benjamin Totori, Henry Fa'arodo and James Naka. Also this afternoon two-time winners Waitakere United host Tahitian side Tefana, while Amicale FC host former champions Hekari United. The opening round ends tomorrow with the return of Fijian champions Ba following a two year absence, up against Mont Dore of New Caledonia."
