Cooks MP gets tax evasion case deferred until February

A Cook Islands MP has been given name suppression in the High Court when he appeared on ten tax evasion charges.

Representing himself, the accused pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The accused succeeded in getting the case adjourned to late February, saying he had commitments between now and then, including a trip to New Zealand.

He urged the justice of the peace Tauei Solomon to suppress details of his name and occupation because his wife wanted a controversy-free Christmas.

The accused was granted suppression of name only.
