The police in Fiji have confirmed that trade union leader Daniel Urai has been charged with sedition and will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The assistant police commissioner Henry Brown says Mr Urai has been charged under section 65 of the Crimes Decree.

He says police allege Mr Urai was urging political violence to overthrow the regime.

Another union leader, Felix Anthony, who was taken into custody on Friday, has yet to be charged.
