Solomon Islands leader not concerned by no confidence threat

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Danny Philip, claims he enjoys strong support and is confident of defeating a proposed motion of no-confidence this Friday.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports Mr Philip saying his goverment has the backing of 29 of the 49 MPs.

A spokesperson for the prime minister, Andrew Donua Muaki, says they expect this backing to increase to 30 MPs by Friday.

The SIBC also reports the government is confident that its 2012 national budget will be passed without any difficulty.
