Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, says an investigation into allegations involving the chief justice will continue, but will be conducted by the appropriate government agencies.
This follows the failed attempt by his deputy Belden Namah and the Attorney General, Dr Allan Marat, to suspend Sir Salamo Injia for alleged financial misconduct.
Mr O'Neill, who has just returned from the APEC meeting in Honolulu, says he supported cabinet's decision to suspend and then rescind the suspension of Sir Salamo.
But he says an investigation into the allegations against the chief justice will be handed over to government agencies.
Mr O'Neill says many of the issues are very serious in nature and they will be referred to the appropriate agencies to carry out a responsible investigation.
The allegations are Sir Salamo mishandled the deed to a dead judge's estate as well as mismanaged court funds, but they came as he was preparing to hand down a decision on the constitutionality of the election of Mr O'Neill as prime minister on August the 2nd.
