The Fiji Football Association has postponed the opening of its new headquarters and training centre after the interim government threatened contempt proceedings against Oceania Football President Tai Nicholas.
This comes after the Fiji Times was taken to court by the interim Attorney General's office for printing comments by Nicholas which were deemed to be derogatory.
The Fiji Football Association had invited Tai Nicholas to open the new facilities today but due to the threat of legal action, FFA President Rajesh Patel, says they had no choice but to postpone the event.
"It was a stand that the government would have taken if he would have come in. From our perspective, whatever it is, it's a directive from Oceania and FIFA. If they said call off an operation then definately we have to call it off."
Rajesh Patel says Tai Nicholas has said he wants to smooth the relationship with the interim government.
Oceania Football did not wish to comment.
