A Samoa school principal supports the government's efforts on the Samoa Language Bill.
The Government is renewing its efforts to promote the Samoan language and among the proposals is a bilingual curriculum in schools and establishing a Language Commission.
The principal of St Joseph College says Samoans in Samoa shouldn't take the language for granted.
Brother Steven Filipo says Samoa isn't exempt to Western media influence.
He says many youth feel inadequate if they can't access this information in English.
"I think personally its good thing to have the bill go through. And for the people to be consulted, in terms of its a wake up call for us, in terms of saying hey we don't want to lose our language. We're exposed to so many things from outside which is inevitable and it has to happen. But we can't just cocoon ourselves from the rest of the world. But at the same time, it is important we keep a hold of the language, and maintain it as much as we can."
