One of two police women in Samoa found guilty of assault has been discharged without conviction, while another will serve a year's sentence.
The two women were found guilty of beating Faasalafa Sione, a woman who had pleaded guilty to the murder of her 14 year old daughter four years earlier.
The 23 year old police constable, Ferila Papalii, has been sentenced to one year in jail.
Sergeant Efo Moalele, was found guilty of assault, but the chief justice, Patu Falefatu Sapolu, has considered not sending her to jail because the gravity of the offence she committed was towards the low end of the scale.
Patu Falefatu Sapolu says he decided to accept defense counsel's submission to discharge her without conviction because of her good service as a police officer.
