It is expected a new University of the South Pacific campus in Solomon Islands will inject millions of dollars into the economy and increase the number of tertiary students in the country.
The USP is to fund and build its fourth campus in Honiara, at a cost of about $10 million US dollars.
The vice chancellor of USP, Professor Rajesh Chandra, says the university will cater for about one-thousand full time students and says construction should begin in 2013.
"The campus will have among the most modern facilities of any of the USP campuses. It will definitely allow more students to study in Solomon Islands. It will be very beneficial to Solomon Islands where the proportion of people studying at tertiary level at the moment is very low."
Professor Chandra says the USP Council has a 19 million US dollar soft loan from the Asian Development Bank for several projects, including a replacement campus in Kiribati.
