Fiji is expected to export around 170,000 tonnes of sugar to the European Union market through its sugar buyers -Tate and Lyle Refinery of London.

That figure is about 40-thousand tonnes up on last year.

Fiji Broadcasting Corporation news reports the Fiji Sugar Corporation Executive Chair, Abdul Khan, saying three sugar exports have already taken place this season with another two expected between next month and early February.

Mr Khan says if all goes well the FSC is expected to make around 200,000 tonnes of sugar by the end of this crushing season.

Should this happen - he says cane farmers can expect to earn around 60 dollars per tone.

Meanwhile, cane harvesting for the Penang Sugar Mill in Rakiraki has finally ended while the final batch of sugar is still being processed.

The other three sugar mills remain in operation.
