New PNG police commissioner talks of transforming the force

4:21 pm on 30 November 2011

Papua New Guinea's newly appointed police commissioner, Tom Kulunga, has vowed to reform and transform the force into a disciplined, professional, trusting and caring law enforcement agency.

The government has also appointed the current Highlands police commander, Simon Kauba, as the acting deputy commissioner of operations, with Fred Yakasa moving to command police on Bougainville.

Mr Kulunga says he believes in a transparent and honest, strong but fair leadership.

He says he will have zero tolerance for dishonest, corrupt, unethical, non-performing and undisciplined police officers.
