The American Samoa government now owes its power utility more than seven million US dollars.

The American Samoa Power Authority chief financial officer, Susana Fai'ivae, has told senators today that the debt is continuing to grow and has reached 7 point 2 million.

ASPA is a semi autonomous government agency that has been struggling to meet its own debts for some time.

Susana Fai'ivae says the government's utility charge on average each month is 700 thousand dollars.
