Following a period of change, the new head of Cricket PNG says it's time for the country to consolidate its place on the world stage.

Greg Campbell has been appointed to the role of General Manager, just a few months after Brad Hogg replaced Andy Bichel as national coach.

The former Australian international says he was mindful of the need for a smooth transition at the top.

"Come a long way in two years under Bill and Andy and we didn't want to let that slip but that was my first hurdle to get over and we've overcome that and now it's looking forward to the year, it's consolidation for us - consolidate our position in World Cricket League Two. We finished third last year so hopefully we can finish top two in 2013. With Brad Hogg coming on he's the same sort of character as Andy - he has a smooth calm about him which the boys here they like that."

Greg Campbell says the Barramundi's team will be training hard over the coming months ahead of their key focus, the Twenty 20 World Cup qualifiers in Dubai in March.
