A senator in Guam has introduced legislation in an attempt to keep guns out of local high schools.

Senator Judith Guthertz says plans by the Department of Education and the Judiciary of Guam to arm school enforcement officers has surprised most people.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Guam has until January the 3rd to decide whether the school officers will be armed.

Senator Guthertz says there has not been an overwhelming problem in schools which would warrant the move.

"This is not the ghetto's of New York we haven't reached that level yet. I still have faith in Guam's children and certainly the education community and we have to take that in consideration. This sounds like a desperate action that may be overkill."

Senator Guthertz has introduced legislation that would ban firearms on school campuses.
