6:21 pm on 21 December 2011

Those responsible for running Air Vanuatu are to hire a top lawyer in a bid to stamp out corruption and financial excesses at the airline.

The chairman of the Board of Directors, Semion Athy, says to this end a QC will be hired who is a specialist fraud, forgery and corruption litigator.

The plan is being endorsed buy the airline's Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Laloyer, as well as the law firm Edward Nalyal and Associates.

Mr Athy says they aim to prosecute former employees who are found to have negotiated huge payouts for themselves as a direct result of kick-backs and dubious dealings during their employment in the airline.
