A series of booklets have been released to help New Zealanders of Tokelauan descent to learn their language.
Funding from the Ministry of Pacific Islands Affairs has allowed the Tokelau Wellington Leadership Group to develop five booklets.
The resources are designed to introduce the reader to elementary words about colours, parts of the body, parts of a household and the numbers one to ten.
The Ministry's Chief Executive Dr Colin Tukuitonga says the 2006 Census shows that only about 28 percent of the Tokelau population in New Zealand was able to hold a conversation in Tokelauan.
