Forum takes stock of 2011 Pacific Plan progress

The Pacific Islands Forum secretariat has taken stock of progress in its Pacific Plan and says despite a number of challenges, it remains the strategy for regional integration.

The Forum's secretay-general, Tuiloma Neroni Slade, says 2011 saw achievements in joint fisheries surveillance, in responding to climate change challenges and in education.

Mr Slade says there have also been structural reforms.

"There is far better co-ordination now under the Pacific Plan and through what we call the Cairns Compact for strenthening develop coordination. There is this coordination amongst the Pacific member countries as well as amongst the development partners."
