The City Council in Fiji's capital, Suva, is planning to clamp down on illegal street vendors.
The Fiji Times reports that the vendors, who operate at the junction of Mead Road and Princes Road at Tamavua in Suva, say they have no choice but to sell there to feed their families.
The city's special administrator, Chandu Umaria, says he understands the vendors have families to feed but the practice is illegal and the police will intervene if they don't stop.
He says the council has received complaints about the vendors from nearby residents.
Mr Umaria says they are concerned about hygiene and the impact of dust and vehicle fumes on the food.
