Port Moresby police have seized ammunition reportedly worth hundreds of thousands of dollars from the home of a senior member of the Peter O'Neill led government.

The Post Courier reports the ammunition was found when police, acting on a tip off, raided the Minister's home on Tuesday.

It is estimated to have a value of about a quarter of a million dollars and is normally only available to the country's security forces.

The politician is yet to be questioned by police but he told the paper he has no knowledge of the ammunition and claims he has been set up by political rivals.
