Charge of intentional homicide over death of New Zealander in Vanuatu

4:36 pm on 30 December 2011

Vanuatu police say a well known ni-Vanuatu man is being held in custody in connection with the death of New Zealand businessman Dick Eade.

Deputy police commissioner, Arthur Caulton, says the man, whose name they have not released, is being held on a charge of intentional homicide, but he says investigations are continuing.

The man appeared in the magistrates court today and his next appearance, for mention, is on January the 9th.

Mr Caulton says it seems the two men had argued over a land development.

Local media have reported that Mr Eade, a prominent vegetable grower, had been planning a major land sub-division.
