Amet maintains claim to PNG attorney-general position

The MP for Madang, Sir Arnold Amet, has re-affirmed that he remains Papua New Guinea's legitimate attorney-general.

According to the newspaper, The National, Sir Arnold made the statement while handing over a computer to the North Coast Road Highway Patrol unit.

Sir Arnold, who is a former chief justice, was appointed by Sir Michael Somare, whose administration was sidelined in controversial circumstances amid a power struggle with a parliamentary faction led by Peter O'Neill.

The process of changing the leadership is being contested in court while most agencies have distanced themselves from Sir Michael's claim to the prime ministership.
