American Samoa officials reminded about campaigning restrictions

The American Samoa governor has reminded all heads of departments, offices and agencies about local regulations and federal law that ban any campaigning in government offices during working hours.

Voters in American Samoa will go to the polls in November to elect the governor and lieutenant governor, delegate to the US Congress and members of the local House of Representatives.

Governor Togiola Tulafono says it is important to reiterate to government leaders current regulations and federal laws.

Although he is not running for office in 2012, Togiola says that does not mean he, as the current governor, should not advise the cabinet of the importance of abiding by the law when it comes to campaigning time.

Togiola is barred by law from seeking a third consecutive term in office.
