An earthquake, measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale has been recorded off Solomon Islands.
The US Geological Survey says it was at a depth of 38 kilometres about 350 kilometres off Makira in the east of the country.
No tsunami alert was issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in the immediate phase after the quake, which struck mid-afternoon.
