French Polynesia's president Oscar Temaru has flown to Hawaii and Australia as part of efforts to boost tourism.

According to Mr Temaru, who also holds the tourism portfolio, Hawaiian Airlines is interested in setting up an air link from either Las Vegas or San Francisco.

He is reportedly also due to discuss the possibility of exporting fresh fish from Tahiti to Hawaii.

Mr Temaru has told the Nouvelles de Tahiti newspaper that he will also travel to Brisbane to talk to Virgin Blue over plans to launch a Sydney to Papeete service.

Virgin Blue has so far extended its Pacific Islands network to seven countries, but not to any French territory.
