NZ's McCully in Honiara to discuss RAMSI

4:15 pm on 11 January 2012

The New Zealand foreign minister, Murray McCully, says he will be briefed on Australia's assessment of Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

Mr McCully is in Honiara for talks with RAMSI, whose open-ended deployment is in its ninth year.

"The timeline is still the same vague timeline we've seen in the past, but the Australians have only just completed their own review of the situation there. So, I'll be meeting with the coordinator to discuss their appreciation and any understanding they can give me about the views the Australian ministers have taken at the moment."

Murray McCully says he is keen to see how RAMSI can change its focus to more development work.
