The Nauru opposition leader, Marcus Stephen says there is growing concern that the new government is abandoning important reforms put in place during his four years in government.
Marcus Stephen resigned from the presidency in November, saying he wanted to allow the government to continue its work after the opposition had questioned his integrity.
He says that in less than two months that the government has been in power, there have been clear signs that the ministers are determined to erode all the gains accomplished the previous four years.
Mr Stephen says one of the key reforms introduced by his government was to stop ministerial interference in the operations of state-owned corporations but this principle was abandoned as soon as the new government assumed power.
Mr Stephen says there is a number of examples where good governance and accountability measures have been thrown out the window.
