Russian man stuck in American Samoa

2:28 pm on 20 January 2012

A Russian man who arrived in American Samoa last month is unable to leave the island because the US Department of Homeland Security is refusing to allow him entry into Hawaii.

It's believed the man is seeking asylum in the United States.

The local Department of Homeland Security says the man worked in the US, and because the Department of Homeland Security is not allowing the man entry to Hawaii, Hawaiian Air won't let him board its flight to Honolulu.

The Attorney General's Office is helping make arrangements to allow him to leave.
