Samoa government appoints former central bank governor as new NZ High Commissioner

Samoa's cabinet has approved several new posts for overseas missions including the appointment of a new High Commissioner for New Zealand.

He is the former central bank governor, Leasi Papalii Tommy Scanlan, who will replace, Asi Tuiataga James Blakelock.

Mr Scanlan will take up the new diplomatic post for a three year term.

The chief executive officer of the Ministry of the Prime Minister and secretary for cabinet, Vaosa Epa, says other cabinet political appointments include the head of the Samoan studies at the National University of Samoa, Fonoti Iupati Fuata'i, as appointed the new Trade Commissioner in New Zealand.

He will replace Dr Pa'o Luteru, who will be heading Samoa's mission in Europe based in Belgium.

Samoa's Consul general in Auckland, Faolotoi Reupena, has been reappointed for a second three year term.
