A forecaster at the Nadi met office says it is increasingly likely that one tropical depression forming off the coast of Fiji could become a cyclone.
The depression is now about 600 kilometres west of Nadi, with the potential to become a tropical cyclone within the next 12 to 24 hours.
Flooding of low lying areas is expected given thunderstorms and heavy rain warnings.
Amit Singh says at this stage they are on alert and monitoring the situation closely as the depression appears to be getting stronger.
"We have also issued a storm warning over the western parts of Viti Levu, Kadavu and many other small islands. These depressions are a sign, and there's a high chance that it will become a cyclone in the next 24 to 48 hours."
Amit Singh says the other tropical depression forming in the region is located north west of Vanuatu.
