No reports of damage following major quake near Vanuatu capital

The police in Vanuatu say there have been no reports yet of any damage from a 6.9 earthquake that struck near Port Vila overnight.

The United States Geological Service says the quake was was centered 122 kilometres west of Port-Vila, and 10 kilometres deep.

Police say the quake was felt strongly.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there was no threat of a widespread destructive tsunami.
