Cook Islands police are to examine gun ownership laws.
They will form a committee including representatives from the Returned and Services Association, and an aspiring small-bore gun club, to examine and update the laws.
Members of other groups are also being encouraged to join the committee and have a say on the future of firearms ownership and licencing.
Henry Wichman, an ex-serviceman who has already joined the committee, said he'd like to see a representative for people who collect firearms join him and RSA president Denis Dwanye in the group.
He'd also like to see a builder on the committee, to give perspective from those who work with nail guns, which are likely to be included in the new legislation.
