LBJ hospital may have to lay off staff in American Samoa

8:31 am on 8 February 2012

There's a big possibility that the LBJ hospital in American Samoa will begin laying off staff later this month in order to keep the hospital afloat while waiting for promised government funding.

LBJ chief executive officer Mike Gerstenberger made the announcement to hospital managers at a meeting late yesterday afternoon.

The layoff will be across the board and will be carried out if LBJ is unable to get financial assistance to keep it operating beyond February the 19th.

Mr Gerstenberger has already told the media that the hospital will be out of cash in two weeks.

He says a a solution to the hospital's financial crisis must include the governor.
