Bad weather prompts Fiji school closures

5:43 pm on 10 February 2012

Schools in Fiji's Western Division closed on Friday sending students home as bad weather and heavy rain began to affect the region.

The Ministry of Education asked principals to close schools and arrange buses to transport students home safely.

Authorities are advising people in the Western division to be prepared for more floods as heavy rain continues.

Fiji's Meteorological Office is forecasting heavy rain, squally thunderstorms and isolated heavy falls likely to flood low lying areas which it expects will ease over the weekend.
