Fiji's Ministry of health will not declare a Public Health Emergency in flood affected areas of the Western division.

A recommendation to declare Public Health Emergency was made by the Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki due to concerns over the increasing number of communicable diseases in the west.

The ministry's spokesperson Peni Namotu says after much consideration the Ministry has decided that it is too early to declare restrictions and isolation of communities.

FBC news reports Mr Namotu saying confirmed cases of dengue, typhoid, leptospirosis and viral disease has not reached alarming levels.

He says the sanitation environment has also improved.
