American Samoa releases two inmates over rehabilitation failure

1:26 pm on 21 February 2012

The failure of the American Samoa Territorial Correctional Facility to provide rehabilitative services to two inmates has led the High Court to release two inmates before their sentences are completed.

Chief Probation Officer Tauiliili Silivelio Iosefo says Leanava Sevaaetasi and Junior Tupolo Hodges would be better off under the direct supervision of the probation office rather than remaining in jail.

Tauiliili says the two had a better chance of being rehabilitated outside rather than in jail.

The probation office will also help the two find jobs so they can support their families.
