Fiji military leaders in police pep talk

3:15 pm on 21 February 2012

Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has called on police to protect and serve everyone in the country regardless of their race.

The Fijivillage website reports that the regime leader has told senior police officers that he has received reports of some officers having personal interest and selfish thinking that has affected the force's service delivery.

Commodore Bainimarama, who is also the head of the military, has called on police officers to lead from the front and serve the community well because people are now more vocal about the service delivery based on the reforms that have been announced by the government.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Works and Transport's Permanent Secretary, Commander Francis Kean, says military officials are responsible for educating public servants on the importance of leadership.

Commander Kean says this will make the police force stronger.
