12:25 pm on 22 February 2012

Guam's Governor Eddie Calvo has set up a new group aimed at presenting a united voice to Washington on federal issues, including the military buildup.

The 22-member Guam First Commission Advisory Council includes representatives from the government, the private sector, community organisations and Chamorro rights groups.

The Governor has told local media the group was expanded to allow representation from many more community groups.

Mr Calvo says there is unity for an agenda to support the strategic interests of the United States and her allies and the best interests of the people of the territory.

He signed an executive order empanelling the Commission following earlier concerns over the legality of such a body.
