A survey of Solomon Islanders has revealed that only 19% of participants feel the country is ready for the scaling down of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.
The 2011 Solomon Islands Government - RAMSI People's Survey examined perceptions of economic conditions, governance and law and order in the country.
It's the fifth year that the survey has been conducted.
At the Launch of the fifth edition of the Survey in Honiara, RAMSI acting special Coordinator Justine Braithwaite said the findings of the survey are a welcome endorsement of RAMSI's presence.
However she said the survey showed that people harbour unrealistic expectations of what RAMSI is in the country to do.
"In particular, the survey results suggest that many people still tend to confuse the responsibilities of RAMSI with those of the national and provincial governments. This suggests a lack of awareness on the limits of RAMSI's role. Clearly quite a lot of Solomon Islanders believe that RAMSI should be building roads and health clinics."
