The price of fuel in Saipan in the Northern Marianas has hit a record high.

The price of regular unleaded gasoline at Mobil Oil Marianas increased to 5.159 US dollars a gallon on Tuesday night.

The 10-cent increase marked the fourth round of price hikes since January, totaling 45 cents.

Super unleaded gasoline is now 5.479 dollars a gallon and diesel now costs 5.519 a gallon.

The CNMI Division of Energy, which has been monitoring gas prices, says the new price of regular fuel is the highest recorded in CNMI history.

The average gas price in the United States two days ago was only 3.682 a gallon.

Guam's regular gas also increased by 10 cents, pushing the price to $4.98 a gallon.
