The Fiji regime says the process to draw up a new constitution is moving ahead on schedule.
The interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, made the claim after the regime failed to meet its own timetable released two weeks ago.
Commodore Bainimarama says the procedures for public consultations for the formulation of the new constitution will now be outlined next week, after saying two weeks ago it would happen in February.
This prompted the Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, to say the regime was bluffing over the consultation process.
But Commodore Bainimarama says momentum in the drive to write the new constitution has not slowed.
Three years ago, his regime abolished the 1997 constitution and sacked the judiciary after the court of appeal ruled that his post-coup interim government was illegal.
